Merging art and technology, creating a place where you can immerse yourself into digital worlds to the beats of electronic music and bringing indie video games into the spotlight has been Clujotronic’s mission for the last decade. Over these years, we’ve grown together into a community and now we’re very happy to invite you all to celebrate with us the 10th edition of Clujotronic - Electro Arts Festival!

Live electronic music straight from Berlin or Paris, video mappings that bring buildings to life, dance performances in unusual, interactive configurations and the most refreshing beats from Romania – they are all part of the Clujotronic festival. From new talents to well-known names from France, Germany and Romania – all artists at Clujotronic are innovators that expand their field and introduce new creative ideas.

At the annual Clujotronic exhibition, you can experience exciting new independent video games from France, Germany and Romania that introduce new concepts, ask interesting questions or become art in their own right. Often, their creators are invited as well, so take the chance and engage with them directly. Besides video games, we also showcase artworks utilizing augmented and virtual reality – technologies that allow artists to bring their artworks to life, creating new dimensions using audio, video and animation.

One of the most spectacular parts of the Clujotronic festival, the digital art installations introduce the public to the new media field: the place where visual art meets technology. Innovative designs and technological approaches that emphasize the artistic statement materialize into interactive installations, music-making robots or extended reality (XR) artworks, allowing both the public and the artist to discover new directions and to connect to the work of art through an uncommon sensorial experience.

Clujotronic focuses not only on entertainment, but also on education. Therefore, we included in our diverse program a series of workshops held by international guests coming from different backgrounds: from musicians to multimedia artists, from digital games specialists to technology developers. You can meet the people behind the creation process and engage directly in hands-on learning activities. The entry is free but it requires previous registration as the number of participants is limited.

Panel discussions, debates and artist talks are a great opportunity to get practical advice and first-hand knowledge directly from our experts and artists from Germany, France and Romania who openly share their experience and know-how with us. Those eager to discover more will always find useful answers to their questions and a place to connect with other passionate fellows from the fields of art, technology and video games.

Already a beloved tradition, the Clujotronic Game Jam aims to support young talented and passionate gamers to create their own games in a vivid and relaxed atmosphere. Game developers of all skills and levels answer the challenge to create, in a short time window, a game based on a specific theme. The amount of work always pays off: in the end it is all about the shared experience, the joy of creation and the fun. The public and the participants gather at the award ceremony to test the new games and to celebrate the winners.

about clujotronic

The Clujotronic journey started in 2012 creating a platform where people could meet and discover the innovative and creative practices that use art and technology in interactive and exciting ways. Organised by the German Cultural Center and the French Institute in Cluj-Napoca, the annual electro arts festival brings together artists and specialists from France, Germany and Romania. The festival is about engaging activities, collaborative projects, and a sense of excitement around tech-based art. We create immersive experiences, a space for asking questions and discussing ideas, where artists, technology developers and the wider public interact and become part of the digital culture.

CALL FOR PROJECTS

Art as well as technology influences our perception on the world and model the way we interact with it. Their encounter leads to innovation, boosts creativity and gives rise to new means of artistic expression. Wanting to encourage the cultural sector towards the development and extension into the digital sphere, so important in the context of the current pandemic, CLUJOTRONIC launches a challenge to artists in Romania: to create a project that combines art and technology, for presentation during the festival in October 2020....
