The 11th edition of Clujotronic has showcased its interactive digital art installations, electrifying audio-visual performances and the curated games exhibition „Games and Politics” in a new venue: the former Municipal House of Culture. This offered the public the perfect spot to connect to each other and to immerse into the world of art and technology. From trained artificial neural networks, to new media, virtual and augmented reality artworks, creative live performances and gamedev highlights, the visitors had the chance to experience the diversity of the digital world and Clujotronic has brought them once again closer the creative and innovative dimension of this art&tech merge.

2021

In 2021 Clujotronic has celebrated its 10th anniversary by connecting the past, present and future within the merge of art and technology. Three of the artists who marked the history of the festival, accepted the challenge of creating an interactive digital art project together, turning the Art Museum's courtyard into a laboratory of audio-visual encounters. This edition has hosted the launch of the first educational digital game created by Clujotronic. The digital art exhibition has invited the public into amazing VR worlds and electrifying installations. The Tranzit House’s space has been transformed into a colorful universe of electro, breakbeat and house rhythms. Video game enthusiasts could again exchange ideas and resources through workshops and brought in their creativity during the traditional Game Jam.

2020

Clujotronic 2020 took the shape of a Hybrid Edition and created a bridge between the digital and in-person encounters, trying out various spaces as scenes for unique cultural experiences. Therefore, the Clujotronic Mile was born! The digital art itinerary started at the Art Museum and went further to the Reflex Gallery ending on Eroilor Boulevard. This edition offered the perfect setting for the first Call for Projects and even more collaborative artworks. The online workshops and debates around games and digital art have explored ways to tailor new possibilities. Game developers of different backgrounds and skills have joined, before the festival, the very first online Clujotronic game jam in a 48 hours competition.

2019

The eighth edition of Clujotronic explored further ways of merging art and technology into the museum’s space. Thus, a digital sculpture has been for the first time presented in Cluj during the festival, while into another museum’s hall a live paint-mapping has brought together two graffiti artists and a mapping expert. Electronic music performances, live sets and fascinating sound and light installations enhanced the dimensions and the acoustics of the space. The public had also the chance to discover the museum’s vast network of cellars transformed into the Digital Cave exhibiting innovative and interactive artworks from local talents. The festival’s annual game jam saw a record number of participants with over 40 young developers facing the challenge.

2018

In 2018, the festival moved from the Vaida Voievod House to the Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca, right in the city center. The cultural heritage theme was a relevant part of the program, offering space for discussions but also transposing the performances, electronic beats and indie video games into the space of the museum, a Baroque palace from the 18th century. A focus of this year’s edition was put on the possibilities of augmented reality which the audience could directly experience in exhibitions, talks, and workshops.

2017

For Clujotronic 2017 the renowned duo Adrien M & Claire B presented their futuristic choreographic performance Hakanaï which blended in a visually stunning way artistic movement with cutting-edge technology. The Sonic Robots concert involving music making robots, the alternative controller video games, and the performances by renowned and upcoming artists and DJs created a unique, exciting experience for the public.

The fifth edition of Clujotronic focused on the aspect of light in contemporary electro arts which was reflected in the line-up of the show and also in the topics of the talks and workshops. The audience was also invited to try out digital graffiti, new indie video games, and experience performances and concerts. Other highlights included the interactive exhibits and the workshops around the medium of virtual reality.

2015

In 2015 the festival introduced the independent video games extension on multiple levels. An exhibition of standout games from Germany, France, and Romania was curated by Thorsten Wiedemann, founder of the A.MAZE festival. Also, workshops and talks around the topic were organized for the interested public in addition to the traditional Clujotronic formats transforming the Vaida Voievod House into the host of a four days cybernetic journey. The same year, the first Clujotronic Game Jam took place.

Keeping true to its aim of promoting innovative forms of electronic art, the third edition of Clujotronic let the audience experience the first big interactive projection mapping seen in Cluj. The festival found a new home in the Vaida Voievod House where it would be organized until 2017. Besides the interactive mapping, the program included workshops, and several DJ/VJ sets which became a staple of later editions.

2013

After the positive echo of the first Clujotronic in 2012, the energy and enthusiasm of the organizers, the German Cultural Center and the Institut Français in Cluj-Napoca, engaged further in the following year. The 2013 edition was presented as a partnership with Camp Festival (International Festival for Visual Music) and the festival for electronic music Rokolectiv and it featured performances, concerts, installations, and a symposium at various venues throughout the city.

2012

The inaugural edition of Clujotronic took place in May 2012, marking the beginning of the first multi-format electro arts festival in the region. Envisioned as a German-French-Romanian collaboration, it brought performances by artists from Berlin, La Réunion, Iași, and Cluj to the Paintbrush Factory and Tranzit House. The project was co-financed by the French-German Cultural Funds and its success made Clujotronic an annual festival.
